Monotype Corsiva is a calligraphic chancery cursive modelled on the cancellaresca hand that Ludovico degli Arrighi codified for the Papal Chancery in sixteenth-century Rome. Patricia Saunders drew it at the Monotype Type Drawing Office between 1991 and 1995, keeping the broad-nib pen logic visible in the stroke contrast while designing the swash capitals as initial letters rather than running uppercase. The font tilts at 14.1 degrees off vertical, ships as a single weight (Regular, 400), and packs 669 glyphs covering Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic scripts. That three-script range makes it one of the few chancery faces that handles formal print in Russian, Greek, and Bulgarian without a fallback swap. It is metrics-compatible with ITC Zapf Chancery, so the two substitute one-for-one in any document layout without reflowing text.
